Introduction

EL HACEDOR: COLLECTIVE WORKSHOP & CULTURAL CENTRE OF CONTEMPORARY ART

The creation of the collective workshop and cultural centre of contemporary art in La Aldea del Portillo de Busto is the main project of Imágenes y Palabras with the aim of creating an alternative cultural meeting point in these remote areas for inhabitants, “veraneantes” (=summer guests) and travellers, and to offer a space where artists from different disciplines, nationalities, etc. can meet and work together.

The Project

The project “El Hacedor” consists of the renovation of various buildings of popular construction to turn them into a workshop of artistic production, with a space for exhibitions and “multi-use” i.e. showing films, poetry, dance, theatre, debates, …

The lack of all services in this village forced us to amplify the project with the renovation of a house, where the visitors can have a rest, artists can lodge and also socialise with friends of Imágenes y Palabras. Also, there will be a space for the association, where members can meet and organise other social activities.

Renovation Plan

For the realisation of this project, thus: the construction work to be done, we have various proposals.
In the first place, we count on the help of the members of Imágenes y Palabras as first interested in the project. Secondly, Imágenes y Palabras has already organised and will carry on organising, international work camps, with the aim of envolving (young) habitants from the region and foreigners in the project.

During these international work camps and “mini-camps” (weekends) we prepare the buildings for works that are more complex, as construction of roofs, installation of electricity, for which we will contract (local) companies. The second aim of these international work camps is to integrate these volunteers in the cultural activities of Imágenes y Palabras, for them to have a clear picture of the area.

Future Activities

Once the construction of “El Hacedor” is finished, the space created will be used for the realisation of a series of cultural activities. Part of these, we have already been realising, although others are dependent of the structure of “El Hacedor”. With this centre, we want to create an open space for all those interested in culture and in participating in cultural activities, a centre, also, that is economically autonomous, and organizationally independent.
