Cultural AssociationIMÁGENES Y PALABRAS
In order to finalize the construction of “El Hacedor” we organise international work camps and work with long term volunteers, in cooperation with SCI (Service Civil International) and EVS (European Voluntary Services). Who we areImágenes y Palabras (literal translation: Images & Words) is a cultural and artistical association that from La Aldea del Portillo de Busto, today an insignificant village of the Northern part of the province of Burgos (Spain), is having a considerable cultural insertion through their activities in villages and towns of the area, the province and the rest of Spain. The originality of its proposals and the wide variety with which it works, helps the difficult work, and aim of the association, to get modern art and alternative cultural activities closer to the rural areas, i.e. to the province of Burgos.
Imágenes y Palabras started with its activities in 2000, which in one way or another are related with culture and society. Examples are: collective and individual exhibitions of modern art, film-shows in 16 MM and video, book presentations, poetry-reading, organisation of performances, a local scarecrow competition, participation in meetings of and connecting with other art groups, and a large etcetera. At our base in La Aldea del Portillo de Busto we are working on the realisation of “Centro Cultural y Taller Colectivo "El Hacedor"”. Artists from all over the world will be invited to exchange their experiences while working close to each other. The results of these encounters will be shown in different galleries and other public spaces of the Junta Castilla y León, the rest of Spain and in other countries. “El Hacedor” will also contain an art gallery, a rural library and a meeting point for members and friends of Imágenes y Palabras. - top - How we startedThe idea of creating an association, a cultural centre, a collective workhop, a scarecrowscontest, expositions about trains, filmprojections in small villages,… in short: Imágenes y Palabras, never existed. Imágenes y Palabras has grown alone, slowly, but emerging, in its own pace, from two foreigners who, one day in their life, decided suddenly to replace the big crowded city for the silence of the mountains.
On the base of manual labour, lots of hours and loads of patience, somehow they manage to keep the thing running and achieve progress. Not one boat will reach the other side of the coast on its own; so won’t development in these abandoned rural areas. People, hands, energy and power are the basic ingredients for Imágenes y Palabras to reach their goal: to have “El Hacedor” running, to be able to invite artists from all over the world to come to work in this small village, to create, to think, to debate, to quarrel and to laugh. And to keep on moving this area, where there is still so much to do in order to guarantee future. In the "Gallery", you will find photos and photo compositions of exhibitions and other cultural activities organised by Imágenes y Palabras (e.g. scarecrow contest 2003 & 2004). “El Hacedor” is the name of the cultural centre and collective workshop we are constructing in La Aldea del Portillo de Busto (Burgos, Spain) and you will find information about the idea of this project, its architectural plans, the future activities we will be realizing, and last but not least, a “messagebox” where you can leave ideas, propositions or any other type of suggestion for us to take in consideration. Closely related to “El Hacedor” are the international volunteers we organise since 2002. The primary aim of the cultural association Imágenes y Palabras (literal translation: Images & Words) is to diversify the cultural environment of the rural areas where it is based. The cultural centre and collective workshop “El Hacedor”, at La Aldea del Portillo de Busto, an insignificant village in the Northern part of the province of Burgos (Spain), will be the heart and point of departure for the realisation of its activities.
From the start, our intention has been to stimulate artists in the creation of their works and ideas, and also to try to involve a varied and wide public actively in these activities.
One of these two persons happened to be an artist, the other one a fanatic organizer and together they managed to surround themselves with more and more artists, culturelovers, friends, volunteers, and so forth. 
La Aldea del Portillo de Busto is a small village, in the middle of the Natural Park of the "Montes Obarenes". Nearest towns: Oña, Frías, Busto de Bureba. 80 Km South from Bilbao; 70 Km Northeast from Burgos.
